Tips and Tricks to Get Through Midterms

By Amanda Olavarria on February 20, 2017

The semester is finally in full swing, which unfortunately means our course load is getting heavier and our schedule is becoming more and more packed.

We are about five weeks into the semester already, which typically means it is either close to or it is midterms time. With this stressful time approaching it can feel natural to panic. However, with the right tools and mindset, you will be right in the line of success.

First off you can start by writing down either on your calendar or your assignment pad when each test is to ensure you do not miss one. This will be a great way to get your priorities straight and to figure out what you need to study for first.

Next, you want to figure out how much time you need to dedicate to study for each exam. An exam that you know is going to require a lot of mental power, you might want to start studying for a couple days earlier compared to others.

Make yourself a to-do list for the day to make sure you get all your studying done for the day. This will make sure you stay on task and that a day of studying is not wasted.

Read through your lecture notes. They are guaranteed to assist you with the tough course concepts. This will also help you remember what the professor spoke about in class and the key concepts.

Make sure to study chapter by chapter. This means, do not move onto the next chapter until you know you have got the previous chapter down. This will help organize your studying and ensure you do not get confused.

Create flashcards or search for flashcards on your course. Even something as simple as making flashcards can help the material sink in. However, if you do not want to make flashcards or simply do not have the time, you can always attempt to look your course up on Quizlet and see if there is a set of flashcards already made.

Test yourself often. Testing yourself is one, if not the most effective way of studying. This is a way of training your brain to think critically while learning the answers at the same time.

Try to take advantage of your time. Whenever you have a gap in your schedule or some free time take that time to study. Something as simple as a bus or car ride when you really are not doing anything can be used as valuable studying time

Overall, remember not to cram too much and get a good night of sleep beforehand. Try to not to stress too much and remember it will be over before you know it! Best of luck and know you got this!
